Annual training hours

Texas caregivers need 24 clock hours a year, and center directors need 30. At least 6 of those hours have to be in child growth and development, guidance and discipline, age-appropriate curriculum, or teacher-child interaction. At least 1 hour has to cover preventing, recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect.

Pre-service training

New caregivers need 24 clock hours of pre-service training: 8 hours before they count in ratio and 16 more within 90 days. It covers development, activities, guidance, self-esteem, supervision and safety, positive interaction, and stopping the spread of illness. Hours used for pre-service don't also count toward that person's annual hours.

Online vs. in person

Up to 80% of annual hours can be self-paced online (19 of 24 for caregivers, 24 of 30 for directors). The rest has to be instructor-led. Pair online courses with live training at your center and your team's whole year is covered.

Based on Texas Minimum Standards for Child-Care Centers, 26 TAC §§746.1301, 746.1305, 746.1309 and 746.1311. Directors decide how hours are applied for each staff member.

Every corner of Texas

Same rules in every town. Now the same training, too.

A center in a town of 2,000 answers to the same Texas Minimum Standards as one in San Antonio or Houston: 24 clock hours of annual training for every caregiver, at least 5 of them instructor-led. What small towns often don't have is the free workshops and training nights big cities get. That's the gap we fill.

  • Online, on any phoneShort video lessons, handouts, a knowledge check and a certificate. No drive to the city.
  • Live sessionsBook a live, instructor-led session for your team. In person in the San Antonio area; ask us about the rest of Texas.
  • Built for whole teamsTeam seats, one due date, and progress you can check as a director.

For centers, learning centers and after-school programs in the Rio Grande Valley, Coastal Bend, Hill Country, Central Texas, East Texas, the Panhandle, the Permian Basin, West Texas and every small town in between.

Annual training hours: Texas Administrative Code, Title 26, §746.1309 (licensed child-care centers).

Big Feelings, Strong Foundations

Our five-module course on supporting social-emotional development in early childhood. Teachers leave with real scripts for the meltdown at 10:15, not just theory.

In their words

What educators say after our training.

Real feedback from teachers who took PrimeTeach Academy courses. Names shared only with permission.

10/10 likely to recommend, from every educator who has filled out our feedback form so far.

  • Absolutely I think everyone needs this training. It gives you real world scenarios and it taught me that their behavior is their way of communicating.

    KatenaCalm Classrooms & Growing Minds

  • I learned a lot about the behavioral cues and signals to look out for and the trauma signs some children may also have, and it gave me a lot of good insight to utilize!

  • These strategies were explained very well.

    UnknownReady, Set, Teach!

  • When we lead with a soft tone and mutual respect we don't just manage a classroom, we grow mindful caring children.

    KatenaCalm Classrooms & Growing Minds

  • It would be hard, but now I think it's something I've already learned.
